VOLUNTEERING TASKS IN PROVINSSI

Every year, a celebration for people takes place in the beautiful Törnävänsaari area, where volunteers participate in various tasks to bring the festival to life. The key attributes for volunteers are a sense of humor, adaptability to different situations, and a touch of both physical and mental endurance. As volunteer tasks are based on voluntary participation, they do not come with a salary, compensation, or other rewards. You can read more about the benefits for volunteers here.

Volunteer tasks mostly occur during the festival period, allowing you to also enjoy the festival atmosphere. The duration of shifts varies depending on the task, ranging from 5 to 8 hours. Before and after the festival, volunteers have the opportunity to engage in creative tasks such as area art and various construction activities.

Previous experience or specific expertise is not necessary for volunteering, but you can highlight any skills you may have in the application form. The most important qualities are the right attitude and a willingness to experience an unforgettable summer adventure!

For Provinssi’s volunteer tasks, the recommended age is 15 years old, and those under 15 are encouraged to volunteer with a guardian or an adult. Everyone, including festival-goers and volunteers, is welcome to Törnävänsaari to celebrate in their own way. You can apply for all of Provinssi’s volunteer tasks if you can communicate in Finnish or English. More information about Provinssi’s values can be found here.

If you have any questions about volunteer tasks, you can send an email to crew(at)provinssi.fi.

A new volunteer role at Provinssi! A Provinssi Friend is a person at the festival whom customers, staff, or even artists can approach safely. For example, if a customer is coming to Provinssi for the first time and arrives alone, they can get a Provinssi Friend to accompany them to the festival or to watch a show, provide support in exciting situations, join them for a meal, or simply chat and hang out. Provinssi Friend are friends for all festival-goers!

There are no specific requirements for volunteers serving as Provinssi Friend, except for good social skills, reliability, openness, courage, and a relaxed and approachable demeanor. Experience or education in social, health, or safety fields is a plus and can be mentioned in the application, but it’s not mandatory. Provinssi Friends work in collaboration with Provinssi’s harassment contact person. Provinssi Friends are available at prearranged times to accompany festival-goers or roam the festival area during the event. No one needs to go alone, as volunteers can work in pairs if desired.

Super team volunteers are adaptable superstars who assist other volunteer teams in various situations, switching between different tasks. A member of the Super team might, at one moment, be in a restaurant taking care of customers’ drink and food needs and, at another, helping with cleaning in front of the main stage. Therefore, super team members need to quickly grasp tasks and maintain an energetic attitude.

NEW FOR 2026

Additional Volunteer Role: Volunteer-mate

This year, we want to make Provinssi even more accessible and welcome more immigrants and international volunteers than before. We want to ensure that every volunteer feels welcome, understands what is happening, and becomes part of the Provinssi crew from the very beginning. For this reason, we have created a new additional role for experienced Provinssi volunteers: Volunteer-mate.

A Volunteer-mate acts as a more experienced buddy for a new volunteer during festival volunteer shifts. You will be in the same volunteer team and shift, and your role is to help them get familiar with the ways, atmosphere, and practices of Provinssi. A Volunteer-mate is not responsible for another volunteer’s tasks or performance. The goal is to provide support, companionship, and low-threshold assistance. This role offers the opportunity to share your experience of volunteering at Provinssi, learn new things, and strengthen the festival community!

What does a Volunteer-mate do?

  • Supports the new volunteer during volunteer shifts
  • Guides them with practical matters and tasks
  • Helps them understand festival operations and procedures
  • Creates a relaxed and safe atmosphere for questions and learning

Often, a new volunteer may be visiting Finland or a Finnish event for the first time, and may not speak or understand Finnish. Therefore, the most important aspect of this role is not perfect language skills, but the courage to communicate and find mutual understanding by any means.

Who is this additional role for?
The Volunteer-mate role is suitable for you if:

  • You already have experience with festival volunteering
  • You are open, patient, and encouraging
  • You can communicate in English or creatively in other ways
  • You want to help others feel welcome

How to apply?

If you are interested, fill in the volunteer application form as usual and remember to select the option “I am interested in the Volunteer-mate role.” We will contact you if there is a new volunteer in your team whom you could be a Volunteer-mate for.
